POBCO-B self-lubricating wood bearings are
unaffected by corrosive materials, are resistant to abrasion, can operate in
wet conditions and will not contaminate. They contain no toxic materials.
POBCO-B bearings are among the quietest in service today.
In most instances where
the pressure-velocity (PV) range is limited to 12,000 psi-fpm and the normal
temperature range is 180° F maximum, POBCO-B bearings
fulfill all the obligations of metal or composition bearings while achieving
other specific requirements quite distinct and apart from metallic or
composition bearings.
The selection of the proper bearing for points at
which the greatest friction and wear occur is vital in modern machine design.
Many factors govern the choice of bearing: lubrication difficulties, conditions
of use, type of product being processed or manufactured, cost factors,
availability, oxidation, inaccessibility, noise, and bearing life. Design
problems involving these factors can be eliminated or reduced significantly by
the installation of POBCO-B
bearings.
POBCO-B bearings are not adversely affected
by water, mild acids and alkalis, and most caustic chemicals, such as sulfuric
acid. Hence they are widely used in contact with or immersed in substances of
this nature.
POBCO-B bearings operate well in abrasive
conditions. The few gritty, dirty particles that reach the bearing surface
become embedded in the bearing structure without adversely affecting the
bearings' performance.
Our exclusive lubricant blend is impregnated into
100 percent of the hardwood, producing POBCO-B material from
which the bearings are manufactured. The lubricant on the bearing surface
provides a low friction film for initial start-up. During operation, additional
lubricant is drawn to the bearing surface in a controlled flow to maintain a
continuous film between the journal and the bearing. The flow constantly
adjusts itself based on load, speed, and the requirements of the operation.
When motion ceases, the bearing reabsorbs the lubricant. Reaming does not seal
off the self-contained lubricants.
Most POBCO-B
bearings are machined with the grain perpendicular to the axis of the bearing
(cross grain) to take advantage of the strength of the wood and to afford
superior lubrication to the bearing and shaft surface.
Non-cataloged
sizes and shapes, including sizes larger than those listed, are available. To
provide superior overall performance and increased strength, heavier wall
thicknesses are recommended for larger bearings usually subjected to heavier
loads.
WHAT IS POBCO-B? A close-grained, dried, dense hardwood is specially
selected. The wood is then 100 percent impregnated with a blend of nontoxic
lubricants. POBCO-B bearings are machined into any shape and size from this
material with tolerances as close as ±.002. In operation, the lifetime
lubricant is drawn to the working surface and eliminates excessive heat
produced by friction. When not in motion, the lubricant is reabsorbed into the
bearing. |
