December 2007|How We Service the Bottling and Canning Industries |
|
POBCO, Inc. services the Bottling and Canning industries by providing a variety of friction reducing conveyor components. POBCO provides these products directly to the end USERS, to OEMS and frequently through the power transmission Distributors servicing companies like Coca Cola, Saint Gobain Containers, Anheuser Busch, Pepsi, Miller Brewing, Coors etc. The following products are frequently requested from these industries:
1.
POBCO Sanitary and Patented Guide Rails
2. POBCO Aluminum Rail and UHMW Covers. Used as conveyor roller chain supports, side guide rails and belt supports. Most popular items include R1310 with GRU0413C or GRU0413F, R3216 with GRU043205, and R1406 with GRU021802B.
3. POBCO UHMW Roller Chain Guides. Used for #50 roller chain with K-1 Attachments for Full Case Conveyors. Most popular CGK1U2050Tab and CGK1U1206.
4.
POBCO Neck Guide - profiles for Air Conveyors moving PET bottles - empty or full. Water, soda, medical and fruit beverage equipment. POBCO offers a variety of material including High Performance Red UHMW, and Hi Wear Green and Hi Wear Black UHMW. Most popular item PET288BCPGreen - for European Style equipment used in the USA.
5.
POBCO Half Round and Full Round UHMW Snap Ons - Used primarly to cover stainless bar - and prevent metal on metal contact in canning facilities.
6.
POBCO Captured Chain Guides - with Aluminum frame profiles and UHMW Chain Guide Inserts. Supports roller chain # 40 to # 80 depending upon design selected. Primarly used in case conveyors for packing "fridge packs" for soda cans.
7.
POBCO Rectangular Wear Strip. All materials are used primarily as roller chain guides and table top chain guides. Hi wear materials are common - as well as lube filled materials for higher chain speeds. Glass plants still prefer the POBCO-B lube filled hardwood material - as the glass chards will not imbed and protrude in the material - instead the wood will just chip off - and allow the continuous flow of the roller chain. The 5/8" thickness in a variety of widths is the most common selected size.
8.
POBCO Conveyor Rollers - Standard Selection - In many applications, light duty, quite, corrosion resistant rollers are requested. Rollers with POBCO "direct journal" plastic bearings, offer a great alternative to the cheap metal ball bearing units that cease prematurely and require constant lubricant.
9.
POBCO Pulleys - Spool Style. Line shaft conveyor systems are still common systems for moving package products in warehouses and distribution centers. The 1" shaft blue acetal is most common - Item # VBD1632020BL - as well as the 1" shaft white acetal Two Piece style Item # VBD1632020BLTPS.
10.
POBCO SnapIdle Chain Tensioners - An amazing item for any roller chain application to reduce slack on the chain with minimumal down time and reduced maintenance required on chains and sprockets. See POBCO web site for all sizes and engineering data. For all inquiries contact your local representatitive—Or POBCO sales department directly at 800-222-6376 |

March 2007|PLASTIC EXTRUSIONS |
|
POBCO Plastic Conveyor Parts & Plastic Friction Reducing Component Products are extruded or machined to standard and custom shapes & sizes. The applications for use are virtually limitless. POBCO Plastic Extrusions including Chain Guides, Plastic Belt Guides and Plastic Guide Rails make up the bulk of use in the Conveyor industry. Plastic Extrusions are available in 1-20 ft. lengths and in 100 ft. to 500 ft. Plastic Snap-Fit Coils. These linear motion extrusions and machined profiles are made from over 25 Bearing-Grade Plastics and Food-Grade Plastics.
POBCO can help with the selection of Plastics for any given application. To complement these Plastic Profiles POBCO Plastics makes available Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum supports such as Guide Rail Clamps/Connectors, Support Rods, Mounting Bars, Guide Rail Brackets and Mounting Channels. Besides Plastic Wear Strips POBCO offers Wood Wear Strips which can extend the life of equipment significantly due to the inherent hardness of the wood in combinations with added lubricants. Wood Wear Strips and Wood Bearings generally have a lower coefficient of friction and a higher PV factor (load & speed factor) than many commonly used plastic bearing materials.
Bearing-Grade Plastics and Lubricant-Filled Wood significantly reduce friction between moving parts, prevent metal-to-metal contact, reduce noise and provide safer environment for equipment users. For your specific standard or custom needs please contact POBCO Plastics (Since 1929).

November 2006|POBCO GUIDE RAILS |
POBCO Plastics offers the world's largest variety of Guide Rails, Chain Guides and Belt Guides.
These linear motion profiles are made from a selection of plastic polymers and are often mated with steel,
stainless steel or aluminum channels for ease in attachment, rigidity, safety and strength. Customers can
choose standard cataloged designs or opt for custom machined or extruded profiles. Over 40% of POBCO's Plastic
and Special Lube-Filled Wood Guides are made to the specifications of the customer and are most often supplied
in 5, 10 or 20 ft. lengths.
POBCO Guides are used in all manner of industrial applications with the Conveying, Food and Packaging
industries being the prime movers. The choice of materials used depends upon several factors including Speeds,
Loads, Temperatures, Sanitation and overall environmental conditions. Our people can help with the customer's
choice of profile shapes and materials.
Engineers, Buyers and Maintenance people can locate these and other POBCO products online at
www.pobcoplastics.com or utilize our extensive catalog. Send catalog or quote requests

April 2006|PLASTIC BEARINGS |
|
Plastic Bearings and related Wear Components have made our world a safer, quieter, easier and more manageable place to live and work. The majority of products that consumers purchase on a regular basis are manufactured and then conveyed, labeled and packaged for consumption and use. These 'conveying systems' utilize Bearing-Grade and Food-Grade Plastic Components. Prior to the 1950's and 60's Metal Bearings and Components were primarily used since plastic composites were still in their infancy. However in the Textile & Agricultural Industry Lube-Filled Wood Bearings were playing a major role since the 1920's. POBCO Wood Bearings are made from hard Maple and a special lubricant blend that affords 100% lubrication for the life of the bearing. These wood bearings are referred to as "Nature's Plastic" and are still in wide industrial use today because of their unique properties and long life characteristics. They were the first true non-metallic bearing and now partner with plastic to satisfy most engineering requirements on all manner of machinery and equipment. 'Nylon' plastic was developed by Dupont in 1938. It proved to be the first Bearing-Grade polymer but, did not come into wide use until the 1950's. In 1957 Dupont developed Teflon'. Hercules Co. began the production of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) in 1957 and it became and still remains the number one plastic polymer used on Conveyors, Packaging/ Labeling Equipment and Food Processing Equipment Our company POBCO PLASTICS was incorporated in 1929 as a manufacturer of Wood Bearings and Components. As Plastics emerged as viable materials for wear and friction-reducing applications POBCO incorporated them into their manufacture and marketing plans. Through machining, extruding and molding, plastic products are made for all manner of industrial application. At one time the options were limited and the choices few. Today one problem for the Design Engineer of machinery and equipment is the choice of literally hundreds of plastic varieties to choose from. What plastic material and component should be used for any given application? When it comes to finding Plastic Wear Materials and Products for Reducing Friction, Wear and Noise and/or providing an FDA compliant Food-Grade Plastic POBCO can provide the information and help required in the decision making process. POBCO provides on-line material information and additional information can be provided on request.
