Subject: Wooden Bearings

Hi, I am Dave Watts, Water Treatment Plant Operator at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In May 2002 we ordered four #4090 Wood Pillow Block Bearings from you. We received the bearings and have installed three of them. They were replacements for POBCO bearings that were installed in 1994. We have received very good service from these bearings and I would like to commend you on the quality of your products and your prompt service.

These wood bearings are the flocculator shaft bearings in our Neptune-Microfloc Aquarius 150A water treatment plant. The bearings operate continuously, underwater, without any maintenance or external lubrication. After eight years of service two of the bearings were worn to the extent of the bearing I sent to you. The other two bearings were still in serviceable condition. This is excellent service life under difficult operating conditions.
